COMING SOON - NAHL'S CHICAGO HITMEN

The NAHL approves the Chicago Hitmen and now the fun starts to get ready for the 2010-2011 season.  Visit the Chicago Hitmen's website, www.chicagohitmenhockey.com,  for further information.

Chicago Granted New NAHL Team

Frisco, Texas - The North American Hockey League (NAHL) has announced that the league's Board of Governors has voted to grant conditional approval for an expansion membership to owners Dick Glass and Mark Hammersmith.

The club, which will be named the Chicago Hitmen, will begin play in the 2010-11 season and play its home games at the West meadows Ice Arena in Rolling Meadows, Illinois.

The membership is conditioned upon the prospective ownership presenting league-required documents to the NAHL office in order to complete the expansion application process.  The club may begin operations once all necessary documents are received in an acceptable form.

Glass and Hammersmith also own the Chicago Force, a member of the Tier III Junior A Central States Hockey League (CSHL).  The CSHL team will change its name to the Chicago Hitmen next season.

The North American Hockey League, the only USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier II Junior A league boasting 19 teams from across the country, prides itself on the social maturity and skill development of student-athletes ages 16-20 with aspirations of advancing to collegiate and/or professional hockey.

Chicago finished their first of two series against the Dubuque Thunderbirds on Saturday night. While the Force looked to sweep the series, and got close, Dubuque pulled it out in overtime. Chicago knew this would not be an easy feat taking on the three time reigning CSHL champions.

I'm not sure who could have predicted this one, but the Chicago Force pulled off an upset against the defending CSHL champions, the Dubuque Thunderbirds. Dubuque swept both series last season against Chicago, but they were determined not to let that happen again. With veterans in their line-up, Chicago knew what to expect from Dubuque.

The Mississippi Surge announced on Tuesday that they have signed rookie forwards Ryan Gervais and Ryan Mero for the 2009-10 season.

The Chicago Force organization are proud to announce that James Albrecht and Mike LaFrenier have been drafted by the Texas Tornado in the North American Hockey League. Mike LaFrenier played for the Chicago force for the the 2007-2008 season and then went to the Chicago Fury. Mike netted 7 goals during the season playing 38 games on defense. James Albrecht, also played for Chicago for two seasons as Forward netting 37 goals and helping 50 while playing 91 games. James also managed to stay out of the box sitting just 14 minutes for 7 infractions.

The Chicago Force are proud to announce today that two more players have committed to furthering their hockey and academic careers. Kent Charnley, who Chicago acquired from The Grand Rapids Jr. Owls midway through the 2008-2009 season had committed to play for Western Michigan. Mike Stubits will be attending Robert Morris University - Chicago beginning this fall.

Three of the Chicago Force Alumni will be moving on for their bid at the Robertson Cup Championship in St. Louis Missouri. Garrett Bartus will backstop the Mahoning Valley Phantoms while Johnny Meo tries to notch a few goals for them and Nick Guran who earlier this year moved up to play for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs, will join them in their quest for the cup. Mahoning Valley is the second seed for the North Division, second to St. Louis. Fairbanks is also the second seed in the South Division, second to Topeka. Win/Loss updates will be posted as they become available.

In a team sport, Eric Levine showed how an individual performing at his best can make all the difference. The Pembroke Lumber Kings' goaltender saved his best for last with an incredible 54-save performance to lead the Kings to the Central Junior Hockey League championship Thursday night with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Nepean Raiders. Pembroke won the best-of-seven final in six games. Levine turned in one of the best playoff performances by a Pembroke goalie since Tyler Chestnut turned heads at the Fred Page Cup in Quebec. Without his virtuoso efforts, the game would have been over almost before it began. Although he has nothing to prove, Levine knows his team will rely on him for more of the same in Moncton if it wants a shot at the national championship. Don't bet against him making it happen. If it can be said that one player can "will" his team to victory, that player for Pembroke on Thursday night was Eric Levine.

Scott Dakan has finished his 2007-2008 season for the Penn State Lion Icers. Scott finished the season with 16 points, 13 from assists and 3 from burrying the puck in the net throughout the 36 games he played this season. Scott reduced his penalty minutes by 66%, totaling just 20 minutes, a much needed improvement from the previous season totalling 62 penalty minutes.

So far after the 2008-2009 season, the Chicago Force are proud to announce that three of their players have made commitments. Ian Hardenbrook will be joining Force Alumni Mike Kestas at Youngstown State University. John Luciana will be attending Ohio University with a Force Alumni, Mike Peota. Force newcommer this season Kyle Lewis will be attending Indiana University, which next year will be joining the ranks of the ACHA Division One teams.

The Dayton Bombers head coach Bill McDonald announced today the signing of forward Ryan Gervais. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Gervais, a 5-foot-8-inch, 180-pound native of Chicago, Illinois, joins the Bombers from Nichols College, where he has played the last four seasons. He compiled 130 points (61g,69a) in 110 games, including 16 power play goals throughout his career. This season Gervais has had a career-high 25 assists.
